kick your kickers

last night i accompanied my 19 month old nephew to swimming lessons. what a riot! he LOVES the water. he's a little fish. not even 2 yet, and he's unscathed by dunking his head or jumping off the side. he does it all with this goofy smile on his face. they played motorboat and practiced scoopin' their scoopers and kickin' their kickers. he can even propel himself short distances with just a stack of floaty pads strapped to his back. seeing the uninhibited joy on his face reminds me of the great things in life. those small, seemingly meaningless, moments that bring great smiles to our faces. like when i get an unexpected call or email from someone i was just thinking of. or when people remember something small and ask about it. those little joys contain the most happiness, because they are so unintentional, pure. you can't help but smile.
life isn't about how many breaths you take,
but the moments that take your breath away.
